EDTC 6320: Instructional Technology

Cooperative Project -Wiki in the Classroom, all the way Home

Project Description:

Team 1 is trying to solve the educational problem that teachers are resistant to incorporate technology in the classroom due to lack of time, skills and training. Our team did online research and found several studies that corroborate this theory. Our goal is to help teachers obtain the skills and help change the attitude of the teacher, which determine the effectiveness of technology integration into the curriculum. Our job was to inform, motivate, and train teachers to utilize, take advantage and integrate these wonderful “social software” to enhance and accelerate our digital students’ learning. Our project is a complete tutorial how to utlize PBworks as a educational tool in the classroom setting.

Responsibilities Met: This project demonstrates proficiencies in the following AECT standards: Standard 3: Development, Utilization and Management; Standard 4: Evaluation; Standard 5: Research; and Standard 6: Collaboration. The chart below illustrates the performances that fulfill the AECT standards. The assessment is also aligned to M.Ed. program standards (EDTC Professional Responsibilities).

Responsibility 3: Development, Utilization and Management. The candidate will develop, utilize and manage a variety of media and instructional technologies to deliver instruction to students.

Performance Indicators Justification

3.1 Demonstrates ability to develop instruction using a minimum of three different medias.

3.1 As a team, we researched  an educational e-tool for our audience to learn how to use. We introduced WIKI  (PBWorks) as a main project for our learners and used  Camtasia  and SnagIt to make our  instructional videos.

3.2 Applies research-based rationale for the selection and utilization of technologies for learning. 3.2  Our project includes fundamental research on integrating and utilizing technology in the classrooms. different educational technology concepts and barriers of the lack of its used were  researched and discussed, and uses of integration of technology in the actual classroom were exposed.
3.3 Demonstrates ability to manage projects and evaluate progress and improvement. 3.3 We had several team meetings and online discussions were different responsibilities for the project were discussed and distributed fairly. Changes, progress, new ideas for improvement  were discussed and made .  All team members worked harmoniously to meet  responsibilities and deadlines in a timely manner

Responsibility 4: Evaluation. The candidate uses incisive and relevant assessment and evaluation techniques (e.g., product or project which uses formative and/or summative evaluations). Candidate demonstrates the ability to evaluate quality of instructional materials and instructional systems using appropriate methodologies. Candidate also demonstrates the ability to use formative and summative assessment methodologies to ascertain the effectiveness of instruction in meeting instructional goals.

Performance Indicators Justification

4.1 Demonstrates ability to use formative evaluation strategies to evaluate the quality of instruction.

4.1 Section I- C  of the project includes a formative evaluation report in which we reflect on feedback given by  our peers.

4.2 Demonstrates ability to use summative strategies to evaluate the quality of instruction.

4.2   As SME’s we personally evaluated the quality of the instruction and made changes as suggested when sharing evaluation results. A survey was created and taken by fellow coworkers, teachers and family members. The survey assessed the effectiveness of the instructional project and edits were made as necessary.

4.3 Demonstrates ability to select a variety of appropriate assessment instruments and use those instruments to assess effectiveness of instruction in meeting instructional objectives. 4.3  All group members were experienced with technology and Web 2.0 tools. We personally evaluated the quality of the instruction and made changes as suggested when sharing evaluation results.
Responsibility 5: Research. The candidate collects, evaluates, and synthesizes research from a variety of appropriate sources in order to support decision-making in design, development, implementation and evaluation of instructional systems.
Performance Indicators Justification

5.1 Demonstrates ability to conduct comprehensive literature review and provide summation of a relevant topic in instructional technology.

5.1 Section I of the project includes a introduction and an analysis of an instructional problem.  We identified our target audience, presented the instructional problem, as well as the instructional solution and the design rationale.

5.2 Uses research in instructional technology to justify academic decisions in course work projects and professional work-related responsibilities. 5.2 In Section I and introduction an a  design rationale was presented  which addressed research and justification of instructional technology choices used for this team collaborative project.
5.3 Uses research to justify selections of instructional strategies.

5.3 We researched various aspects of the field of Education Technology and selected how best to present our findings in our video. We created and  provide how-to examples tutorials of each of the selected e-tools like Gmail and PBWorks and showed educators how to use them.

Responsibility 6: Collaboration. The candidate demonstrates the ability to form electronic teams in order to identify and solve problems and opportunities in the field of instructional technology. The candidate demonstrates effective team building skills in a distributed collaboration environment, and demonstrates how candidate's own students or colleagues can take advantage of electronic collaboration for distributed team building.

Performance Indicators Justification

6.1 Demonstrates the ability to team electronically with professionals to identify instructional problems or opportunities and devise appropriate solutions.

6.1 We met and a weekly basis. having  several team meetings and online discussions. Reviews, suggestion for changes and improvements were discussed and made during and after our communication. Our collaboration was implemented using various communication tools and applications.  We used instant messaging, email, social networking and Pbworks, and Google to communicate and collaborate. .

6.2 Identifies trends in distributed instruction. 6.2 Each team member research on different current technology trends and shared the findings during our "meetings". Current trends and the tech savviness of today’s student was taken into consideration when making our choices.

6.3 Demonstrates effective utilization of tools necessary to implement distributed instruction.

6.3 We used a variety of tools that cater to different technological abilities. Diverse learning and  special needs were taken into consideration in the process of the creation of our project.

Modifications Made
