EDTC6321-Instructional Design
Dr. Rene Corbeil Spring 2010
The purpose of this course is simply for you to learn how to build a better instructional mousetrap. You will use a systems approach to designing instructional processes. This seemingly commonsense idea takes on more meaning as you wend through what is admittedly at times a tedious process, but a powerful one. Instructional design (ID) provides the means to get others to learn. "When, where, what and why" are up to each individual situation. The "how" is the ID part. The designers of this course want you to be able to develop the skills to answer those types of questions...to not only recognize what constitutes excellence in instructional design, but to develop the abilities and skills necessary to create truly superior instruction for your students or intended learners, whomever they may be. Despite the mousetrap metaphor, the goal of this course is for you to be able to design and develop the best instruction possible. Generally speaking, this course is designed around six major components: (Dr. Rene Corbeil)
1. Learners, Their Environment, and an Instructional Goal (Instructional Unit or IU1)
2. Task Analysis and Instructional Objectives (IU2)
3. Performance Objectives and Assessment (IU3)
4. Instructional Strategy (IU4)
5. Evaluations: Formative and Summative (IU5)
6. Cooperative Project
